Ever read the book "The Monk who sold his Ferrari" ? I'm carrying it around , these days. Bought it from Chennai while waiting for my flight. I like listening to him more than reading his book. I remember one of his dialogues .
"Adults are nothing but deteriorated children"
As a kid , we have a lot of enthusiasm and curiosity. As a kid , we are not judgemental . As a kid we connect with others immediately. As a kid , we are not afraid to even put a key into plug points ( I've done that as a kid ) . Robin Sharma urges every grownups to think and act like a kid.
I'm in Phoenix now. Ever since I landed in the airport, I feel that I'm practising what Robin has asked me to . I feel like a kid, when I cross the road. The first time I travelled in a bus here , I felt like I did something amazing. Everyday morning I wake up and I start wondering how to cook breakfast. I learned how to make tea using micro-wave oven. I also make sure that I'm keeping my room clean , like my mom used to say. My friends takes me out in their car. My colleague teaches me how to buy groceries and pay bill. I am definitely a kid . I guess , I've taken Robin's words deep into my heart. To such an extend that I'm learning how to use a potty again ( atleast the 'tissue paper' part of it ).
That reminds me of an interesting conversation with Bryce, one of my friends in Phoenix office. He was talking about cultural differences and said that he wont shake hands with me because I put my hand in my ass. I had to tell him how I feel, after using a tissue paper. Plainly put, its not just my hand , I dont feel that any part of my body is clean.
I took my sweet time out to correct Bryce about his concepts. I told him why we use water to clean ( its because of the availability, definitely ) and why Europeans used tissue papers and finally how Americans got the same idea. I also talked in detail about us using left hand instead of right hand for the cleaning purpose. Whether he understood the difference or not , he was happily eating Mexican Tacos which I bought with my hands. ( Bryce , I hope you are not reading this )
Everyone at office ( especially my boss ) scared me about the summer heat of Phoenix . I feel its much better than being in North India during summer. Ateast in Phoenix, everything is airconditioned... bus, shops , office , apartment everything. And it rains once in a while. And I can understand the language when someone talks to me. And the best reason for me to like Phoenix summer is that, due to heat, girls are walking around naked ( almost :-p ) . I know , I'm not acting like a kid when I said the last sentence. Its just that once in a while, I grow up to become a teenager.
