I thought gals go to "Beauty Parlour" on the D-Day. I was wrong. It takes two days for the facial to really reflect on the face . I started noticing this after a lot of "yet-to-marry" gals suddenly started looking prettier towards the end of the week. The reason is the "pennu-kaanal" on Sunday. Here I'm charting out the way gals look and behave during the season of pennu-kaanal.
Monday : Her face is still gleaming . The effects of "facial" is still visible. She is not talking much . There is apprehension in her eyes , while she gives that mock smile. Perhaps , her dad has not yet called , giving her the result of previous day's pennukaanal Perhaps she is asking herself, "What would I say , if Dad asks for my opinion ? Should I say 'yes' or 'no' ? " Tuesday : All the facials effect has gone . Guess she didnt even bother combing her hair . Her eyes looks saggy ( hmm lack of sleep ) . That means result is out . This marriage would not happen. You try to talk to her and her eyes would wander away . She is not at all focussed. Perhaps she is asking herself , " What might have gone wrong ? Is it because of me,him, A, B or C ? " Wednesday : She is suddenly focussed about the team and her work. Still there is an air of aloofness that surrounds her . She would reply to your hi with a painted smile. She suddenly gets into a lot of animated conversations , but slips away as soon as you ask something personal Thursday : She is angry and agitated . Bcoz , her dad called again . There is another pennu kaanal this Sunday. You can meet her with hair untied, as she talks to her gang of gals. She is philosophical and says , we are only the pawns in a game played by God. Friday : She looks a lot cute and crispier . Her eyebrows plucked and hair tied perfectly. She went to beauty parlour, to be ready for the Sunday. If you see her in lobby and tell her that she looks beautiful , she would smile back ( coz remarks dont affect her inner self ) Saturday : Face has started gleaming but if you look closer , you can see tension in her eyes. You can sense a hurriness in her . She ought to go home early today.... Sunday : D-Day . Once the D-Day is over , go back to Monday and the cycle continues. Someone was asking , "Dont these gals have some selfrespect or selfesteem to say NO to this ? Dressing up and going infront of some stranger every Sunday, as if you are a cow waiting to be sold off ?". He was angry at the guys who go for this every Sunday too. He was comparing them with those who go to market to buy Mangoes. Bro, you said NO . After 20 rounds of screening by mom, 10 rounds of investigation by dad, 5 rounds of calculation by astrologer , and then that 1 round of pennukanal . You said NO. ... and thats it. Have you ever wondered what the gal went through? I dont know why gals allow this to happen . Rather, I am surprised that they have the energfy to face every sunday . I dont know why society follows this tradition. I dont know why parents asks for it. I only know that I wont do it , bcoz I cant stand it.
